We pulled in our friend and artist, Lars Nielsen, to create the visuals of the world. Lars has a distinctive art style loaded with personality.
FUN FACT: Alex has known Lars since he was 8 years old when they first met at Magic Pro Tour Los Angles in 2001. Alex was working the event and Lars was attending with his mom, renowned Magic artist Terese Nielsen.
Cosmic Balance is a hybrid board/card game of battling gods, angels, and demons for 2-5 players. It takes under an hour to play. Your cards become the fighting units that conquer and control territories. Since you're a god you decide whether to send defeated cards to the Heaven discard pile or the Hell discard pile! The discard piles sit on a scale that measures how many defeated enemies have been sent to Heaven or Hell. Tip the scales and open the gates of Hell or Heaven. You get Victory Points from each territory you control at the end of your turn plus bonus points from Angel and Demon cards. The player with the most Victory Points at the end wins!
This board is big (about 31 inches by 20 inches) but fits nicely in the box.
Greetings, former mortal! I'm Splaynit, your guide to Cosmic
Balance. I was sent to Hell and my punishment is to explain
game rules to new gods for all eternity. You're a god now so act
like it and learn the rules! I've already explained this 4,730,014
Alex was brand manager for Magic: The Gathering and Brian was lead designer on 8 Magic expansion sets. Magic’s use of the graveyard as a semi-active game zone inspired the idea for a board game where players could use the discard pile to affect battles on the board and use the weight of dead cards to measure the carnage. After a lot of prototyping we developed the Cosmic Balance device and had Claudia Ng engineer it.
